Do you avoid being the tallest poppy?
What is it that is keeping you small?
When I was 10 years old, I won an art competition at school. We drew pictures for Earth Day (22 April, TODAY!!), and my drawing was picked for my year. I was so proud! I was awarded a t-shirt to wear on the school’s Earth Day walk through town.
A passing woman saw my shirt and commented on it, and I happily exclaimed that I had won it. And one of my friends mocked me.
This is the first time that I can remember being shamed for being happy, or for celebrating my success.
I haven’t thought of this for many years, but the memory surfaced this week, as I considered ways to heal the planet today. I was reminded that I needed healing myself.
As I delved into the residual emotion and beliefs that this incident created, I began to recognise the subtle ways I have avoided sharing happiness and success in order to avoid a negative response from others.
Around the world, there are issues around ‘tall poppy syndrome’, and being afraid to be seen as successful, powerful, or talented. In many cultures, we are taught to play down our gifts, that we’re not supposed to ‘show off’, and that it is wrong boast or brag.
But where do you draw the line? And what are the potential effects?
I believe that we all are here for various reasons, unique to each of us, that we have things we want to accomplish, people we want to connect with, and that we all are here to make an impact upon the world.
But how can you do that if you hide your gifts?
Your gifts are the best indication of what your purpose is.
Your gifts, virtues, and passions guide you in the path towards accomplishing all that you are here to accomplish!
Look back at your life, and remember the times that you hid your gifts, dulled yourself, dismissed your talents, or simply denied them.
Remember the gifts, virtues, and talents that you have denied.
And imagine applying them now.
I know that I’m not meant to be a famous artist. But I am meant to connect with others through open and honest expression. I know that when I deny this expression, I deny my divinity and the best of who I AM.
Identify the GREATEST aspects of you, the power, the love, the compassion, connection, expression, and everything else that could flow through you to make your life and your world an incredible place to inhabit…
And allow yourself to live them <3
Would you like to know how to recognise and honour the gifts within you that are Divine,
to understand how to allow them to become a part of your daily life, with grace,
to know that you have permission to be successful, powerful, beautiful, talented, and happy, from the highest perspective,
to know that you are worthy and deserving of expressing the highest and best of you with the world,
that you know what it feels like to embody your gifts and virtues and live your purpose, on all levels?
Say yes and receive! <3
